By and For Inland NW Writers
Our next INWG Meeting will be:
Wednesday, June 19, 2019, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a “social hour.” If you wish to eat dinner, I suggest you may want to come as early at 5:00 p.m., but you can always order at any time and that would be for a meal, or dessert or just a drink of some sort.
Location: Frankie Doodle’s Restaurant – Third and Division, Spokane, WA
Meeting/Presentation: Our official meeting will begin about 6 p.m., ending at 7 p.m. or later, depending on how things go with the program. Our speaker will be JOAN M KOP who is an author from Spokane. Joan has lots of handouts and will cover a variety of topics related to good writing, learning opportunities, etc. Her main focus, however, is titled:
"First Page and How to Hook Readers in the first 17 lines.”
Joan has promised to lead us in a fun activity to “judge” the first page of our books. Do you think the first 17 lines of your book will engage your readers and get them to keep reading? This is your chance to find out. If interested, bring about 20 copies to hand out, with the following restrictions:
1 – no identifying words (author’s name or title) – pages must be anonymous
2 – only the first 17 lines may be included – make a separate copy of page 1, delete the above and delete anything after 17 lines
Not following these guidelines may disqualify you from the “contest.”
If you want to check out Joan’s website before the meeting, go to: joankopczynski.com.
This will be a great opportunity to learn about Joan’s process in getting her book published, with use of coaches, editors and conferences… And to have some fun with fellow writers!
I hope you can make it.
